Your Audio, Video, and Film Assets

Chair
Peter Brothers - Specs Bros. LLC

Presenters

Mick Newnham - National Film and Sound Archive, Australia

This expanded workshop covers multiple aspects of preserving audio, video and film including storage, handling, treatment, and identifying materials in your collection that are at risk. The tape portion will cover preventative maintenance of existing materials, essential tape handling and storage, obsolescence and will review a visual guide to identifying tape formats. Attendees will be taught to conduct a 7-step physical inspection, currently mandated by International Standards, to identify at-risk tape materials. Visual examples of problem tapes will illustrate the steps so results can be easily understood and applied to a collection's preservation efforts. The new film portion will follow a similar format and will include never before seen photos of damaged films to help with identification of problems and an illustrated film inspection conducted by the Senior Researcher for the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia.

Tour: Anheiser-Busch Brewery & Ted Drewes
Your tour guide will familiarize you with the rich history of the colorful Busch family en route to the King of Beers – the Anheuser-Busch Brewery. Situated in a 100-acre complex with over 70 red brick structures, the Brewery buildings are known for their unique architecture and several are National Historic Landmarks.

During the tour, you will see the World Famous Clydesdales, the Fermentation Building, the Packaging and Bottling Plant, the Brew House and a film about the brewing process. No visit would be complete without a stop in the hospitality room to sample the family of Anheuser-Busch products.
After leaving Anheuser-Busch you’re in for one last treat. Before returning to the hotel, savor a sweet treat as you stop at Ted Drewes Frozen Custard, a St. Louis tradition since 1929. Enjoy a specialty “concrete” shake that is so thick you can turn it upside down.

Please note that all tours and workshops have a minimum number of guests.
You will be notified by October 16th if your workshop is cancelled.
