workshop highlights workflow options and imaging technology, including
how to identify image quality for preservation. Presentations include:
Archivists and The Digital Domain, Top Ten Tips to Help "Play
It Forward," Preserving Image Quality, Image Permanence and
Motion Picture Workflows, and Asset Management.

To XML and Back: An Introduction to XML

This
workshop explores the basic principles of XML, applications of XML
in moving image archives, and relevant metadata schemas. Situated
at computers, attendees will receive hands-on experience creating
an XML document, using the editing software oXygen, and further
transforming that document to comply with a standard such as PBCore.
This workshop provides the archivist with the fundamental skills
to initiate digital projects and face the challenges of rapidly
evolving technologies and user expectations.

Preservation and Triage Training: Safeguarding
Your Audio, Video, and Film Assets

This
expanded workshop covers multiple aspects of preserving audio,
video and film including storage, handling, treatment, and identifying
materials in your collection that are at risk. The tape portion
will cover preventative maintenance of existing materials, essential
tape handling and storage, obsolescence and will review a visual
guide to identifying tape formats. Attendees will be taught to
conduct a 7-step physical inspection, currently mandated by International
Standards, to identify at-risk tape materials. Visual examples
of problem tapes will illustrate the steps so results can be easily
understood and applied to a collection's preservation efforts.
The new film portion will follow a similar format and will include
never before seen photos of damaged films to help with identification
of problems and an illustrated film inspection conducted by the
Senior Researcher for the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia.

Tour: Anheiser-Busch Brewery & Ted Drewes
Your
tour guide will familiarize you with the rich history of the colorful
Busch family en route to the King of Beers the Anheuser-Busch
Brewery. Situated in a 100-acre complex with over 70 red brick structures,
the Brewery buildings are known for their unique architecture and
several are National Historic Landmarks.
During the tour, you will see the World Famous Clydesdales, the Fermentation
Building, the Packaging and Bottling Plant, the Brew House and a film
about the brewing process. No visit would be complete without a stop
in the hospitality room to sample the family of Anheuser-Busch products.
After
leaving Anheuser-Busch youre in for one last treat. Before returning
to the hotel, savor a sweet treat as you stop at Ted Drewes Frozen
Custard, a St. Louis tradition since 1929. Enjoy a specialty concrete
shake that is so thick you can turn it upside down.
