Your form must be complete or it cannot be processed.

The Conference Committee invites submissions for session proposals for the 2008 AMIA Conference in Savannah, GA.

An important goal for the AMIA 2008 Conference is to present a balanced program - one that includes a wide variety of topics, cutting-edge discussions of technology, a balance of theory and practice, and invite new ideas and concepts that may stimulate additional interest, involvement and educational benefit. The program should address topics of concern to diverse perspectives and constituencies and to archivists at all levels of experience.

Please submit a developed proposal, including the names and contact information for each of the proposed speakers and an indication of their agreement to participate. Each proposal goes through a Peer Review, and incomplete session proposals that include only some of the speakers or that are missing information about speaker participation are very difficult to assess when compared to complete proposals.

The Conference Committee encourages submission of proposals that may include, but are not limited to, the following formats: (more information here).

TRADITIONAL. Open session of 90 minutes, consisting of two or three fully prepared papers of 15-30 minutes each and a comment-and-discussion period. May also include Work in Progress format. Please do not propose sessions of more than three presenters. Paper titles are required. A chair is not required for this format; chair duties may be performed by one of the speakers, who must also be designated as the key contact for the session.

PANEL DISCUSSION . Session of 60 or 90 minutes, consisting of a panel of three to four individuals (with a moderator or commentator making a total of no more than five participants) who informally discuss a variety of theories or perspectives on the given topic. May also include Focus Session format. Description of each speaker's topic is required. A chair/moderator is not required for this format; chair duties may be performed by one of the speakers, who must also be designated as the key contact for the session.

TUTORIAL. One or two sessions of 90 minutes, designed to provide the audience with highly informative, in-depth, practical information about an archival practice, technique or technology.  Recommended format:  three speakers with ample time included for audience Q&A.   A chair/moderator is required for this format; chair duties may be performed by one of the speakers. Name and resume of speakers, and paper titles are required.

If you are proposing two sessions, please be sure to indicate (2) 90 minute sessions. If the focus or speakers will differ in the second session, please be sure to complete the form twice, indicating Part I and Part II.

WORKSHOP [Submit via Workshop Proposal Form only]: Limited-enrollment session of half day or full day, usually designed to teach or refine skills.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Participants in the program must register and secure institutional or personal funding. AMIA cannot provide funding for speakers, whether they are international, non-archivists, non-records managers, members, or nonmembers

The Conference Committee's task is to have a global vision to ensure a stimulating, balanced and professional program that will meet the diverse needs of our members. The Committee is unable to accept all proposals submitted; and, some individuals who propose sessions may be asked to revise their proposals to help meet the wider needs of the program.
